Highland Elementary Academic Team (HEAT)
Coaches:  Tajuana Lisenby, Cheyenne Mercer, Lindsey Neal, David Coleman, Vonda Stockton

"Enriching the lives of Kentucky students through academic competition"
This is what our Academic Team is all about.
Students in third through fifth grades compete on our academic team known as H.E.A.T.. This academic opportunity allows students to excel in their academic learning through competitive opportunities.  Students meet weekly in content classes throughout the year and then a select number go on to compete in the District Governorś Cup competition.  Students also have the opportunity to compete in Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving .  This is another example of helping each student ¨FInd Their Voice¨.

Green Team
Sponsors: Tisha McGuire, Andrew Lee

The mission of the Highland Green Team is to make our school and community a cleaner, "greener" place to live.  These students work very hard to ensure that we do everything we can to take care of our planet.
From managing a school-wide recycling program of paper
products, to collecting plastic bottles and holding
aluminum can drives, these students are really making a difference.

Highland Student Lighthouse Ambassadors
Sponsors:  Will Compton

Members of the Highland Elementary Student Lighthouse Ambassadors work closely with the staff Lighthouse Team to make a positive impact on Highland Elementary students, staff, families, and community.  Members will plan leadership events and opportunities throughout the school year to ensure Highland’s consistency as a Leader in Me school.  After being nominated by their classmates, students completed an application and are interviewed for the Lighthouse Ambassadors team.   Ambassadors give tours of the school, sign in visitors, welcome new students and famliles, and serve as the "elves" of our school.  Ambassadors can be called on in a moment's notice to be a helping hand.  Ambassadors learn the history of the school and share our goals as well as our vision.

K-Kids

THE HEART TO SERVE

Making a difference within the school and community is what K-Kids is all about! Club members identify needs within the school and community and develop a plan of action to meet those needs. Whether it's collecting coats and canned goods for those in need or organizing a teacher appreciation event, K-Kids members have the opportunity to work together with Kiwanis-family volunteers to make the community and the world a better place.

K-Kids can provide opportunities for students to discover their heart to serve. When students discover their heart to serve, they decide that serving others is a new, exciting way of life. The service club experience at a young age can help students accept their own ability to make a difference, enhance their knowledge of their own passions and convictions, and develop their ability to empathize with those in need in their communities.
